How much training will the staff need to use the product?

A: Very little, if any.  Portal4Law™ has a simple, intuitive interface that uses established software conventions.  Non-technical users can begin searching and retrieving documents in a matter of a few minutes.

What type of documents can be stored in Portal4Law™?

A: Any existing electronic document or scanned paper document. Types of documents include PDFs, Microsoft Word, Word Perfect, JPEG and emails.

Our documents have already been scanned. Is there an easy way to get those into the Portal4Law™ system?

A: Yes! Portal4Law™ provides a batch Import feature that allows you to import an entire directory of files or CD/DVD at once. Portal4Law™ can even perform OCR on unsearchable PDFs to make them searchable.

Can I send an email directly to the system?

A: Yes. Portal can email files and lists using Outlook. There is no need to attach documents. With just one click, the document will be emailed. 

What type of hardware is required?

A: At least one standard business-class PC running Microsoft Windows XP SP2 or higher. See hardware requirements.

What computer platforms do you support?

A: PCs running Microsoft Windows. See hardware requirements.

Is there a limit to the size or number of documents I can store?

A:There is no limit – only the size of your server’s hard drive space can limit the number of documents stored.

When I email documents will they be sent in PDF or TIFF format?

A: Documents are sent in their existing or native format.

Can I export my documents to a Windows folder?

A: Portal4Law™ can export any set of files to any folder or disk.  This allows for easy creation of a CD to share the files with other law offices. It also allows for easy selection of files.

Can I access my files when I’m not in the office?

A: You can access Portal and search/retrieve all of your documents via VPN or Remote Desktop.

What if I need help immediately?

A: You can send email to support@Portal4Law.com any time. Your email will be answered no later than the next business day.

When can I contact PortalSoft support?

A: Our live support is available Monday-Friday, 8 am-5 pm (PT), 650.396.7376.

How can I back up the data?

A: Portal4Law™ automatically backs up the database on a daily basis.  A “snapshot” is automatically taken everyday and will be included along with the library data in your normal back up of your computer or server.

What is the process to scan and upload documents?

A: Customers can use the batch import feature as explained in the user manual to facilitate this process.

Can I download my files to create a CD/DVD?

A: Yes, any number of files can be placed in a folder and used to easily create a CD/DVD with one click.

Is there any way to control access to Portal4Law™?

A: We offer the ability to configure users and groups.
